Thing 21

I am not impressed with Podcasts. I had a hard time coming up with a subject that came up with results. I also kept getting a window to run an activeX when I tried to listen to a podcast. I chose not to. So as for me, Podcasts may be a little bit in the future yet for me.

Thing 20 & You Tube

I love You Tube!! I have not checked out You Tube before. The videos are great and they load and play very quickly. I love the Gilmore Girls, and I am missing it this season on TV. I would like to see it return but ... oh well. Anyway, You Tube has given me the chance to see video clips I missed, like an interview with Lauren Graham on the Ellen show. So I will be checking out You Tube a little better. This is great!!!

Web 2.0 Awards - Thing 19

I selected the maps.google.com site from the Web 2.0 Awards for my discovery exercise. I have used MapQuest alot for finding directions. But I like this mapping tool much better than MapQuest. It seems to be so much easier to use. The satelite views are closer and much more focused. I will be using this tool for directions instead of MapQuest in the future.

thing 18

This is amazing. I did not know that there were free tolls for spreadsheets and word processing out there in the world wide web - and did I mention free? This had been an amazing journey, learning the 23 things. I have realized how unknowledgable I have been concerning the internet. ♥♥ I can't even do some of this stuff on my Microsoft Works program. How neat is that. I definately will have to remember this site.

thing 17 & sandbox

Thing 17, took me a little while to finish. I had a hard time understanding the instructions in the favorite blogs page. Especially getting my blog into the sandbox group. But I did it. And after I figured it out, I realized how simple it was. I think that reading blogs from my co workers will be interesting. I like blogs from people I know, more so than from someone I do not know.

wikis - thing 16

Wikis? I had heard the word, knew it meant something with the internet, but what? Now I know, thanks to the 23 things. I had seen the wikipedia come out from an internet search, but thought it was an encyclopedia, like World Book. But this encyclopedia, wiki, can actually be changed, as far as adding, deleting, etc. That is odd. I agree with one blog I read in one of the library wikis, that they did not put much value in the wikipedia, that they always checked with other permanent sources, to get concrete info. Wikis would be hard for me to use alot, I need organization, and surity.

thing 15

Does it seem, from the perspective I read, that Library 2.0 , or the web, could phase out live librarians? I hope not. It is just natural to see librarians in the library. But, with the new technologies, it could happen as it has with with bank tellers, the auto industry, even phone recordings have taken the place of real live humans. I am sure that the Library 2.0 has its place, but not to the point of taking away our live librarians.

thing 14

I guess that tags and blogs work together great for those who look at blogs often. It is better for me to stick to a small group of bloggers, not as much to read. I never seem to have alot of time to read, and I would rather be reading a good book. Again, I feel that thing 14 is for someone who has more time than I do. But who knows, now that I know about tags, maybe I will use them more than I think I will. Oh by the way, when I checked Technorati for blog posts under "Learning 2.0", I found 25,404 blog posts.

thing 13

As I went to this site, I was bombarded with many words and lines that needed to be read. I did see comments from others as they bookmarked certain sites. I, however, do not feel that bookmarking in this way is for me. I have to say, that out of the 13 things I have done out of the 23, thing 13 has been my least favorite.

thing 12

I have looked around rollyo, and have set up my account. I am not sure that I will use it much. I may use it for searching Southern Gospel Music. I love to listen to Southern Gospel Music and this tool may give me a chance to do some searching on You Tube. I have not really used You Tube, so this may make it easier.

OOPS

My previous post should have said thing 11, not thing 10.

Thing 10 - My Library

Wow, these 23 things are really fun. I think I am going to enjoy the Library Thing or thing # 11. I like the idea that I can create a library of books I have read or would like to read, and to see what others have thought about those same books. MEEZ - Image Generator

Well I created a little Meez. Not much resemblance to myself but the best I could do.
That was fun. I am learning so much thru these 23 things. I thought I was pretty proficient on the internet, but I was just hitting the tip of the iceberg. I am really getting into the know how now.

thing 9

I have finished thing 9, and agian a challenge. I have subscribed to Merlin, pending approval. I am learning such cool stuff. I did not like the search tools for newsfeeds. I simply go to the site of the blogger I like, for example Meredith Viera from the Today Show. I just went toher blog, clicked on the orange XML, and added it to my bloglines account. It was simple. I did not have much luck with the search tools though.

Thing 8

I have just finished thing 8. Wow, that was quite a challenge, but I think I've got it. I will enjoy these RSS feeds, and i have set up my own bloglines account. Here is the URL to my public bloglines account. http://www.bloglines.com/public/USERNAME

technology

I am having fun with these new technologies I am learning on 23 things. I created a trading card, fun. Also setting up my own blog was neat. I always wondered how people did that.

Flickr

I did not know such sites existed for photos, and free too? This is one of my own pics that I took last winter. A reminder of what is soon to come, and will come too fast for me.

HABITS?

Habits? Learning habits are necessary. Using technology for learning is easy for me. I used the internet alot when homeschooling my children. Viewing problems as challenges is very hard for me, I hate changes in my life. So this is one habit I need to change for the better.
